Guiding Principles

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES

SCHOOL MEALS FOR OUR CHILDREN

No child who attends school in Canada should ever have to go to school hungry or should ever have to return home hungry. Schools should provide nutritious meals, free of charge, to all students.

ORGANIC FOOD IN OUR SCHOOLS

All of the meals served to our children at school must be made using only organic foods.

NUTRITIONAL EDUCATION

Our children should learn about the importance of organic foods and the benefits of healthy nutrition both in the classroom and at farms and greenhouses. We recommend establishing school programs for elementary and high school students.

Children from Grades 1-6 should spend a half-day per week learning about the importance of healthy and organic foods, while students in Grades 7-12 should spend one entire day per week in studies and hands-on learning related to planting, nurturing, and harvesting farm-grown produce.

Through programs such as this, students would learn about the nutritional benefits of foods and the critical role that food plays in human health, as well as gain an appreciation for growing natural foods.

PROMOTING OUR FAMILY FARMS

We actively support the preservation and promotion of family farms as the foundation of organic farming.
